All the eletrics work from what I could tell. The rear sun roof has been sealed due to a leak I presume but the trader hadnt realised

Q.1. When I engage Low and High there is no light on the dash to indicate that its selected is that normal as the owners manual say it should light up. Although when we took of for the second test run I had left it in Low and it sounded alot diffrent to when it was in Hi only got to about 10-15MPH and pulled over.

Q.2. When the Auto box is in P it still rolls forward or backwards depending on the gradient again is that normal Ive never had an Auto before.

Many Thanks.

The diff lock light comes on when engaged (push to left) but no light comes on when changing in to low gear. Mine rolls a bit too when I put the handbrake on in 'P'. As far as I know (I'm a Disco noob too) the handbrake locks the transmission & not the brakes. If I'm wrong I'll be corrected.

Had mine for a couple of months & love it. Hope you enjoy yours.

hi
you say it rolls back and forward in P if it just rocks aprox 6" thats fine but if you mean you can roll it like its in nuetral then the lock pin inside gearbox has snaped , also make sure it only starts in P or N

q1 yes thats correct but only difflock light will light up not low/high

Should it be in High for normal driving or should it still select gear when in N? as it didnt seem to want to engage drive when it wasnt in either H or L?

Ive used the search function and it seems the diff lock lever/function is diffrent with Auto and Manual so it doesnt push to the left as its an Auto and I tried messing about with it but at no point would it go left just very stiff movement pushing forwards and backwards.

It rolls as though its in Neutral alot more than 6" again Ive managed to finaly track some info using the search function and it could be the "paw" something or other? Is it ok to still use as I'd always use the handbrake anyway.

auto transfer box is identical in hi/low ,difflock as manual ,its rr box thats different, park is castleated ring which pawl is forced into when p selected ring is held on with two small screws that can shear easy if applied while moving ,its situated in rear most housing of gearbox bolted to govenor, easy fix but means removing transfer box

Sounds like the script to a soft porn film to me. :D:D

Then it's already engaged. Pull right to disengage (then you will be unable to move the stick forward/back).

Should be disengaged for normal driving.

It was already over to the right it was kind of pointing towards me if you know what I mean.
It could move forwards and backwards so it went into L and H I guess from reading a few other posts it could be siezed or very stiff as I was kinda being gentle with it when moving it around, and didnt try to hard to force it over to the left.

There is a knack with engage/dis-engage H&L with an auto, are you trying to move the selector with the vehicle stationary and what position is the gearbox selector in ??? are you following the instructions in the owners handbook for autos ?.

The Auto Box was in N and the handbrake and footbrake both applied as such the vehicle was stationary.

Thanks for all the help guys,

The none working P is something I can live with.
Still havent managed to engage the diff lock for love nor money it wont budge to the left at all. Gonna have a look through previous posts and see whats what, has been suggested that it wasnt fitted with it as it has ABS? and also a suggestion that its never been used so is sezied off in some way or similar?

Drove her back the 60miles didnt miss a beat and did quite well on the old squirt which suprised me.

it has diff lock someone been telling to porkies, you will need to remove consol rubber gaiter on tunnel to get to lever assembly ,remove it strip it lubricate it refit it,set linkage so difflock and hi and low are all selected easily

very good apart from bent linkage cant effect light ,light works directly of selector fork, pressing switch on when diff lock engaged, switch can fail ie stay stuck on ,or be wound into far stopping fork moving in or out of diff lock,,fork is secured to shaft via a spring so setting of linkage is equal both ways is important as some movement past point of selector fork is needed with lever both ways to get collar to slide along diff to output shaft and back ,its sprung loaded so that engagement with lever can be made and actual selection occurs when diff and shaft align so allowing selection while moving without having to juggle with lever as would have to to engage hi/low
