I did think "That's brave lannie survivalists just doing there thing, showing off the 'go anywhere groove of defenders" :D

nah, buckshot is right, no snorkel.

but get the bow wave right and its perfectly fine at that depth. if i stop the water comes to below the intake, you would have to go deeper than that to flood it! water came over the bonnet at the very start though!!

I'm 50/50 on whether to get a snorkel or not...
Part of me thinks 'It's overkill when the lannie can cope with most water hazards anyway.'
But the other part thinks
'If we get bad flooding I can get out and about and do my thing without worrying about it...'

id advise it to anyone mate, its one of them things once you have it you never have to worry about it again, i went for the safari snorkel part of me wishs i never as it was bloody pricey, but does look ace:D if i were to fit one agian id go for one of the 60 quid jobbeys they look ok and do the same job:p and if you do rip it of, off roading etc only 60 quid not 220:doh:

or you become relaxed about it, rely on it too much, and don't notice the hole which has worn through :p

with a snorkel you MUST test it regularly by putting your hand over the intake. if the engine doesn't stall you have a leak. i would also test it before going through deep water.

i am going to fit one at some point for peace of mind. but i'm going to just use a 2m length of flexi pipe as i would rip a snorkel off it my first outing!! i like tight lanes, my roof does not!!

heres too people i know have, one is how i will do mine, the other is plain wonderful!! the flexi costs £5 a length and before you go in water, just lift it to top of screen, when not in water drop it down. i would use 2.5", not 3" though and would probably just go through the bonnet

as i remember jp saying to someone that thought they didnt need a snorkel to go thru water,

fill a bath with water submerge your head and try and breath ,,do you need a snorkel?

as for a landy coping with most water hazards yes it can as long as the water aint no deeper than the side air intake..
 
I see your from devon, are those lanes near you as im holidaying in devon in july and are looking for some to try while i'm down your way. any info would be good.

there down in cornwall, but if you say where in devon your going i can give you some pointers. might be able to show you around too....

mine doesn't have side air intake, its behind the headlight in the corner which makes a huge difference.

i do agree though, should get a snorkel sorted sooner rather than later.

Wow. is that the Mulcharnic lane (the river crossing) - if so, i've tried it the other way but couldn't get up and the track was too knarly to come down (so had to reverse through it!)

The Lopwell Dam one looks good!

we (the company i work for!) owns that!

its devon mate. there are lanes evrywhere!! i live in the south hams so know those best though. newton abbott, torquay, plymouth area.

i think so. i didn't lead so i end up getting well and truly lost!! first time laning in kernow and i must saw, very nice. the ones in devon are very heavily used in comparison!


what the guy who organised it said in the right up about where we went

started at castlemotors and headed towards looe.
1st hassle of the day a dirty great big tree had come down blocking the lane complete.
thanks to mikeo and the trusty chainsaw and my winch we were soon moving again.
we then dropped down muchlarnic and all had a country car wash as we went threw the river at the bottom.
of then for some more local lanes before heading east taphouse and up threw the woods
then of to panther bridge which was a bit to tight for steve so he and mike went back and met us at the bottom
me san and yoggi then drove it down

then took in some around pensilva and surrounding areas before making our way back towards tavistock/before ending the day at lopwell.
agreat days lanning with a bit of damage to a few trucks mine included

the one lane i really wanted to do was panther bridge but the landy was too wide with the tyres on to get between two trees! typical!!
 
yep, we done a few of them, the mulcharnick one is really nice (did you go left at the fork and up through the woods or right, up the forest track and past the school into Morval?)

Only 5 mins from Me n Trewey they are!
 
if you do it right and you got balls and stupidity then you can do with no snorkel. back in november i did a 4 foot deep crossing with no snorkel, with a few other motors from here, albeit all with snorkels
