Hi there folks, need some advise on my l322. It went into the garage last week for smoking when pulling away, they put it on machine and came out with no fault found, they found that the turbo pipe was split so they changed that and now it don't smoke and pulls like a train now , But now you pull away and hold your speed between 30 to 40 and it feels like your driving over a cattle grid, then put your foot down a bit then it goes away , any ideas, thanks

When the Torque Converter is on its way out, the Lock Up Clutch starts working overtime to try and prevent TQ slippage....this wears out the friction material like crazy and causes judder (like a manual clutch on the way out)...

Most evident on light throttle at 30-50 and sometimes on a slight gradient....

Sometimes the rev counter needle can be seen rising and falling in time with the rumbling....

Get it looked at before it deposits large amounts of friction material into the box and trashes the drive gear clutch plates...

But why has it only done it after they have changed the turbo pipe

Possible excessive torque from the now good running engine has shown a weakness in the TQ....

Note, the link above refers to the ZF box, yours will be the GM box which is more succeptable to TQ issues.

Get it to a specialist....doubt any faults will be logged if there is no Trans. Failsafe message....

No point taking it to a main dealer - they haven't got a clue about transmissions. Go to an auto specialist. I'm sure if you updated your profile with a rough location a member could recommend a place near to you.

Just updated it , anyone can help me

how are you getting on? i have the 4.4 ZF box but i think the TC issue could be the same

bemble is your man, if you look at the link below, without him my project would not have even been started

http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/oil-leak-gearbox-229433.html

the way i checked if the torque converter was a suspect was to hold a very light constant throttle enough to make the car change through the gears up a long slight to moderate incline.
i found that after the car shifted up a gear to 4th or 5th and the revs dropped to around 1500 i used to get a rumble or vibration and the rev counter would move a few hundred revs in time with the vibration

the cattle grid effect is typical of TC problems but i am not convinced you have this issue

there is some discussion regarding dr tranny shudder fix on rangerovers net i think and also loads of reviews on amazon.com by lots of americans but not sure if anyone has fixed a rangey with it.

my transmission is almost perfect now after a few weeks of the total rebuild and something that is interesting is that i am sure the car changes down now on an incline as you would expect rather than changing up into a higher gear which is when the rumble occurred

i have heard of injector issues causing vibration, dodgy tyres, prop shafts out of balance or UJ's caked with mud
