S sniggib New Member Aug 15, 2010 #1 Hi, which wire do i take off the ignition to feed a cd player? I have a choice of a brown wire, thickest, a red and whte wire, thinner, and a white much thinner wire. I think its the red and white one, but just wanted to make sure cheers,

I wouldn't touch the back of the ignition switch Brown is a permanent unfused live, White is an igintion switched unfused live White, with a Red trace is the wire to the starter relay (only live when the igintion key is in the 'cranking' position) Depending on the age of your Defender, there are usually two live connections to a head unit, one permanent and one ignition switched. The permanent live is usually Purple and is fed from the same fuse as the interior light and clock. The ignition switched live is usually White with an Orange trace and is fed from it's own fuse in the fusebox. .
