The temperature gauge on my 300tdi is not working brought a new sendor [the slim one with single bullet type connector] of E-bay but where the F*%$ does it go?

have you checked the thermostat

Bottom of the F*%$ing thermostat housing. There's two sensors you need to get the right one.

Found it at the back left hand side of thermostat housing underneath alternator cables. Jobs a goodun.
