Hi folks!

The 10AS fitted to my Defender (Td5 MY 2005) finally seems to be dead now as starter doesn’t crank the engine and having no code signal detected with oscilloscope (I did so some time before) on signal output (fuses and earthing checked).

Unplugged both 10AS connectors (grey: 1979-… and green: 1980-…) and connected the black/orange lead (which is crank enable signal 1980-10 of 10AS) of the starter relay under fuse box to battery minus pole. That way coil circuit of starter relay to ignition key is closed then (what unarmed 10AS does instead of).
Then put ignition key to crank position just to expect that starter motor at least cranks engine.

To my astonishment engine starts well-behaved!!!

How is it possible without transferring code signal from 10AS (1979-14) to ECU (658-34)??
Is the code written into ECU memory persistently once ECU and 10AS have been synchronised and unless none of both were being replaced / cut off from power??

My concerns are to be hooked some day as engine could not be started:5bbanghead:

Thanks and regards,
Andreas
