Advice and help please. Hi I just purchased a 2005 MK 3 - 3 litre straight six diesel Range Rover but the idle / tick over RPM seems a bit fast, is there away of adjusting this to slow it down, and can please you tell me what is correct idle RPM is ? Thanks

Hi idles around 900 RPM - just feels to high also passengers have noticed and commented that it seems fast
Thanks

I've seen a few threads ref the petrols revving at 900. Dont recall any on the diesel. A qujck search might help you. Good luck.

Hmmm, it'll idle a touch fast when cold and then should settle down when warm. Do you have a working temp gauge and does it suffer from serious fuel consumption? (Well, more than normal)..

Hi
No des not seem to settle when warm - Temp gauge on 1/4 when warmed up - Yes fuel consumption does seem to high
Thanks

The M57 in my 530d idles (once warm) at around 750rpm.

Idle speed is controlled via the engine management ECUand is not a user settable parameter and would need to be coded to increase idle speed.

Thanks needs slowing down not increasing but seems its not a DIY fix
Also what should temp gauge show when engine warmed up ?

Most engines around 80-90°.
It could be a failing temp sensor on the engine that could be telling the ECU it's not warm and it's over fuelling trying to achieve its ideal running temp?
Normally the temp gauge at mid way or just before.

Is it this one you can find very easily with a search in youtube? I don't know because I don't have an L322.

Under the engine inlet manifold,
Towards the rear of the cylinder head and just above the head gasket.
This is based on the BMW X3 version, unless there is a sensor on one of the coolant pipes?
This is the only one I know of. Maybe an L322 owner can confirm this for us please?

Running temperature of the M57 is I think 105C, certainly 95C, if the temperature sensor for the EDC is faulty it will idle at the cold setting. Your gauge seems to confirm that full running temperature is not being reached. The thermostat could also be faulty and they are a known failure item

Then download the RAVE manuals and then you will know what you are doing :D:D:D

The stat is a plastic housing fitted to the water pump....

This morning the temp gauge rose to nearly !/2 half way (First time in several weeks) also had warm air coming through vents (much needed with outside temp only reading 5 deg C)
I'm no expert but could this be just a thermostat problem ?
Thanks.
