I am looking at buying a 1994 3.9 Disco but the heater / fan does not work (blow) at all. The price is good, it only has 90k on the clock. Should this be something to worry about ? I am pretty good mechanically and would do the job myself but I am concerned about the possible costs.

The first thing I thought was a fuse but as I am using this problem as a bargaining chip I did not want to make it seem like nothing!

Any ideas welcome, Haynes manual on the way from EBay

The worst thing to expect would be to replace the blower. You can get them SH from ebay from like 20 to 50 quid - the entire heater unit that is, except the heater matrix. To replace it you need to dismantle the dashboard, something like 3-5 hours work.

Having yesterday just replaced heater matrix on my 1990 car, I would recomend getting an entire unit, the so called just releasing of spring clips - isnt, it was a total pig to take apart, and yes at least 5 hours work - took me more like 6-7hrs! the dashboard removal is OK, as long as you are methodical!

Thanks for that, the sale fell through but I now have another one in my sights and its heater works. I am going to bite the bullet regarding fuel because the sound of that engine will make up for it! Its only money afterall and you can't take it with you.

How much are you spending on it? i have a 92 (k plate) for £1600, v8i 3.5ltr, done just over 100k miles, bring cash and drive it away
