I just noticed that Fairy overdrives are going back into production along with full spares back up. Website says Aug so if you have one that needs a rebuild you will be able to get the parts.

Seriously good news and hopefully will lead to the cost of parts coming down. The price has been sky-rocketing in recent years

Are the Roamerdrives any good? Not many folk on here talking about them so I guess not...

Good news on the Fairy's tho :)

So are Fairey going to produce shiny new complete units or just the parts. Any guesses on price? It would be nice to see Roamerdrive have a bit of competition to help reduce their high price.

It says on there web site they are producing new overdrives plus full spares back up.

I've got a Roamerdrive and its excellent. It's a lot stronger than a Fairey due to its axial design. I had a problem with mine initially (probably me cocking up the fitting which is actually quite easy) but since then its been rock solid.

The advantage of the Roamerdrive is that it is equally strong in high or low so you can use it as a splitter in any gear. Might not sound that useful until you get used to it. For instance there's a very steep lane near here where its just a bit too steep and windy for third but you're screaming in second, shove it into overdrive in second and its Goldilocks....I use it all the time for just that. If I'd done that in a Fairey it would probably be buggered by now.

It will be interesting to see the price difference between the Fairey unit and the Roamerdrive - if they're roughly the same price I'd go for the Roamerdrive every time...hopefully there'll be a price war as I need another for my other motor!
