Hello everyone, has anyone ever come up with a mod to get around that stupid drop down rear window on the freelander one facelift? I don't care what it looks like i just want a get around so I can do away with that stupid drop down bit. it was a bit iffy sometimes and then when the mech broke and I replaced it it is a pita, I've adjusted it several times but the window has a habit of detaching itself from the clamps for no apparent reason, I've done all sorts to it and its still a nightmare. I'm not bothered if i have to take the receiver bit at the top (fixed bit glass slides into) off and replace glass with say a sheet of ali and some sort of seal behind it, its only my works motor, the car is mint to look at, for an 05 plate theres not a mark on the body and the chassis never been welded, but its got me so pee'd off if i cant sort this thing then its down the scrappy with it.

The window drops to allow it to seal in the upper channel. If it isn't working correctly, then something is missing, or isn't set up correctly. When it's done correctly, then it's pretty reliable, more reliable then the side windows on a BMW 3 series, which uses the same technique to seal the door glass.

For the glass to come out the clamps, either clamps are missing the rubbers, or the clamps are bent.

If you can't fix it properly, why not sell it. They're holding there money pretty well at the moment, if the body is in good condition, and it's otherwise not been molested.

I'd not expect to see welding on a 2005, unless it's been used for launching boats.
 
If your car is mint it's surely worth adjusting it properly rather than bodging or scrapping it? The adjusters on the bottom of the regulator are the key here I would have thought, ensuring that the glass angle is correct so that it slides smoothly under the trim at the top, and seals (as best it can) against the rubber surround - unless as Nodge says, something is missing or damaged.
