Hi folks
Just acquired a 1982 S3 Diesel (Marine Blue, galv chassis, overdrive etc) and wanted to install some extra gauges to keep an eye on things - oil pressure, water temp and voltmeter. Before I go ahead, thought it was worth asking those in the know if there are any specific/obvious places to install the sender units which a newbie to LR might not know about. Current plan is for twin adaptor onto current oil sender location so can run new gauge and still retain existing warning light. For water temp gauge, plan was to put in-line sender housing into top hose and go from there - however, open to other suggestions as the vehicle has an electronic fan kit fitted and the sensor for that goes into the top hose so a bit wary of complicating that location too much with another one. Could use existing water temp sender location I guess but would like to retain existing dash gauge as well if possible. Any suggestions gratefully received. Apologies if this has been covered before but I couldn't find anything obvious on the search function (unless I was not doing it correctly which is entirely feasible!)
Thanks

The 2.25 diesel has a spare port beside the temperature sender at the rear of the head.
Top hose does not give best reading as the water is at it's hottest at that point.

Thanks for the reply - I think that one might be used for the heater take-off pipe on mine -would that be correct?. All the other hex heads in that area are head bolts as far as I can see.

PS - Looks like you are local to me - I'm just up near Morpeth.

You can get combined oil pressure sender and switch units. The key is to getting the thread right or getthing the right threaded adapter. You shoudl have a temp gauge / sender already, they are usually by the thermostat so they read head temp even when the stat is closed. If the port is used for something else look for another, oftne there is one blanked off. Be very carefull about the voltages, the series gauges are mostly 10v but not all, you need to refer to the wiring diagram. Modern after market gauges are usually 12v so you need to be clear about which supply you will use. Its more complicated becuase the wrong voltage can make some gauges over read and other under.
