Im fitting a Bearmach external fuel pump to my 110. Would there be any harm in fitting this to the chassis rail behind the spring mount in the offside rear wheel arch? It would be nice and close to the tank and fuel pipes, low enough to pull through the in tank pump aswell. Is there a better position that i'm missing?
this type of pump.

I put mine in front - on inside of chassis rail but basically the same - iirc it's hard to get them lower than the tank and still be out of harms way..................... for years mine was on the bulkhead next to the heater so definitely pulling not pushing - worked fine.........................

Cheers waldamar. I will have a look on the inside of the rail to see if I have space. I don't want to be dropping the tank out again on my own as its a pig of a job on the driveway, so I'm looking for a position that is easy to fit the pump wire and plumb it in without stripping the car.

Hi John,
I've just mounted one of these electric pumps on the outside of the chassis rail under the driver's seat of my 109" Series 2A. Usefully, removing the plate under the seat gives excellent access. The pipework's still in progress but the cold and wet outside is not helping.

Hi John,
Meant to add that rear mounted pumps are vulnerable to lots of mud and dirt being thrown at them so a shield of some sorts helps to keep them clean - don't forget they have a filter on the base and a line filter was fitted to the original arrangement I believe. Hope this helps.

+ 1 to that, I've got inline filter before the pump and another before the carb - Seaboy - your flooding isn't due to pump pressure or flow being to high is it? just a thought,

As this will be drawing through the original in tank pump I was hoping that the pick up filter on that would be enough. The in tank pump is a recent OEM landrover unit that got killed when I ran out of petrol but kept driving on lpg causing it to run dry.

Hi John,
Thanks for this. I'm converting to the electric fuel pump from a 2A mechanical fuel pump as petrol was dripping from the Weber carb housing and I have very sooty plugs. As you suggest, I suspect the mechanical pump pressure for this set-up is too high. I believe the Facet pump I and you have is a low pressure one. My one was fitted to the original 110 my 2.5 ltr petrol engine came out of. I just hope that it can cope suction wise with its mid-chassis location.
Regards, Sandboy.

I fitted the pump to the bulkhead next to the heater just to see if it would pull that far and it worked fine. Easier to plumb in from there too. Top Tip!!

Well it works there................... but may run dry after standing awhile as the fuel will drain back and it'll need to re-prime itself - but mine was fine there for years - just not the rec. practice..............................

I'm currently recovering from an op on my spine so in not allowed the crawl around under cars for a few weeks. Fitting it to the bulkhead allowed me to fix the problem semi temporarily while not putting my back under too much strain. I need the petrol system to work so I can break in the new cam on my 3.9 engine when I fit it, can't start and run the car on lpg for the break in.
Today I fitted a bomb bay switch so I can switch the pump off while I'm on gas. Hopefully it will live longer that way.
