Iv been looking for days now and still cant find the black plastic rubber window seals for a 1995 P38, mine have lost there gloss coat?
Iv noticed on one of mine that the fixing is a metal clamp and screw, do you have to remove the door panels to re fit and secure them properly?
Waiting for your wisdom,

Paul.

Hi Paul,
Do you mean the plastic covering along the lower edge of the windows on the rear doors etc.?
If so this is a push down fit and can be removed if you lift from the edge towards the rear of th car, slide carfully upwards and slip over the rubber lip.
The rubber seal then slides up and out.

I resprayed my plastic parts with Black Bumper spray from Halfords.
Now looks like new. I now have to do the same with the black metal surrounds to the windows.

dont use bl**k to bl**k as this just makes them shine but not for long, get a proper restorer for the trims.

Many thanks guys, any product in particular for the re spray?
I also found the parts from landrover direct 120 for the front and 50 for the rear, are they having a laugh or what, its a plastic trim!
Cheers again.

just look on ebay,go for the liquid type, not the spray on stuff.just type in black trim restorer on ebay.

Hi again,

The part I used was as stated Plastic Bumper Paint bar code no. 5015025325170 not back to black.
However I have tried most of the so called restorers but have been unable to get a good result that lasts.

Plastic Bumper Paint bar code no. 5015025325170 not back to black is a 330ml can of black special plastic spray paint. Ensure the suface is clean dry and dust free before you spray and only spray a fine coat and build up the layers 6 or so should do. This is a thin spray so dont oversparay or you will get runs. I cleaned my plastic with 151 Clutch and brake cleaner from the pound shop to remove any polish or grease etc.

I have also used it for the plastic dash and kick boards inside my old classic as the grey version is the exact same colour as the original trim. Incidently I used the grey on the front grille of my p38 as it is also a good match. It was sprayed a year ago and has not faded or changed colour yet so I can only say that this is one of a few products I would buy again from Halfords.

I hope this helps
Fred

Fred many thanks very informative post and I will be asking you many questions over time so be prepaired.

Paul.

Glad to be of help.
The black metal part of the window surrounds also flake off and you may find the rubber window channels are also bubbly from the metal rusting away inside.

Regards Fred

So just to confirm, if I use the product from Halfords as instructed, will it look uniform if I just do the window bars, or will there be a noticeable difference? I think i can cope with doing the window bars, but if I had to mask up and re spray the rest Id need help lol.
