I'm looking at a 17 yr old 110. It has some issues that I'd like some advice about.

It has some corrosion around the bulkhead at the sides. the front doors sills and door bottoms are rotting.
there's some corrosion on one of the outriggers, but the chassis seems good, not corrosion or holes. It's had a new rear x-member.
I'm worried about the leaks.
There was some leakage from the axles, xfer box, gearbox, sump area, saying that there were no oil stains where it was parked,
It's priced at about £4k

I'm also looking at moving it to LHD (if I have enough pennies left) so may get the bulkhead replaced in this process.

What sort of extra outlay (really worst\best case senarios) am I looking at to bring it up to scratch?

I'm a bit clueless here so would appreciate any help! :confused:

Sorry, I've been looking at some 90's. So how can a car thats 8 years older than mine with 3 times the mileage be worth more?

I didn't put the milage down did i?

It's got 80k on the clock. That's about book price.

Is it a dog?

From what I've read, people say that defenders leak oil... I've never owned one before so I don't know what a leak is and what A LEAK! is... also the door sills... is that a large amount of work?
 
It shouldnt leak that much imo, and if sills and bulkhead are rotting, I'd follow Sirus' advice..
 
It's only worth what he can get for it, if you're really taken by it and want it then make him an offer. You might reach a price you're both happy with.

... so many issues that look initially fiddly but could amount to such a lot of work and further expense. I agree with the others, Sirus especially, but discobill's right too ... if you really like it make an offer (at least half I'd say) and see what happens ... ;)
 
I reckon it's worth 1500 tops. There WILL be money needing spending over and above what's immediately noticeable. That V8 makes it pretty undesireable in today's market but even if it was a tdi it'd have to be absolutely mint to be worth four grand. For four grand you should be looking at a much later example.
 
FFS you can have my 87 td 90 with a replacement TDi engine waiting to go in it for £1500.

I agree with previous posts: 110/v8 combo least sought after...should be cheap as chips! avoid bulkhead corrosion !! oil leaks par for course BUT is there oil in all leaky areas? no oil on road may= no oil in g/box etc.did you want LHD?.....then look for one![try ex.MOD dealer like P A Blanchard?]
 
It dunt lean at all. It has got a couple of dints on the Left hand side but they is character forming :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :D
 
Uh huh. Roll it to the right to get it straightened and get the engine in and i'll think about it.
 
Thanks all... maybe a bit overprice, but the engine and box are sweet... the leaks aren't that bad on 2nd inspection... there's a fair bit of bulkhead and sill rot, but I can live with that. May get bulkhead replaced yet....

Unfortunately there aren't that many V8 110s around, have a look... they may be undesirable, but they're also non-existent and I didn't want a TD5 or TDi.

Basically I'm running out of time.. I need to get other work done on it before we go away.

Car's just had yrs tax and MOT this week, I made an offer and I'm pretty happy with it. I'll see how we get on.
