Which is the best account of a 4 x 4 expedition available at the bookshops? It needs to be interesting enough for my 10 year old (he's a good reader) but adult enough for a grown up to read... (I'll find a grown up once I've read it!):D

do you mean information or non-fiction novel? there is a good write up on overland novels in this months LRO. most widely available is "first overland", good read and all about land rovers :) London to Singapore in 2 Series 1's. Its an excellent book, there is also an accompanying DVD!

Chris scotts book is good, but a little over rated and designed for a niche market. For a better overall view i would highly recommend the "vehicle independent expedition guide" by tom shepard. You wont find it anywhere other than talking to the man himself so go here:

Tom Sheppard - Four by four driving techniques and vehicle expedition driving

trust me, i searched for over 6 months! he has also just released a book which i have asked for for xmas :)

Enjoy.

Many thanks Griff... Its for my son who is a land rover mad t5en year old. He wants to see what the motors can do, and is obsessed with the idea of exploration so non fiction is essential. I'll contact Tom Sheppard and see what happens. thanks once again for the advice.
