Hi guys.
Ive found the cause of my expansion tank leak.
If i go on a longish drive i found my expansion tank empty and signs of leaks from cap down the tank itself.
Upon checking further after top up and another drive i watched the steam coming past the cap.
There is no mayonnaise in oil.
Water and coolant remain normal until steamed off.
No change in engine temp on needle.
Heater works great.
No bubbles coming through header tank.
Any advise or ideas welcome.
Is it as simple as a new cap and or tank

New cap is a good first step.;) Use genuine caps only as most aftermarket caps release before the correct pressure.

The tanks get a lot of crazing, tiny cracks, around the top that the steam can escape from. They can also split, but that doesn't sound like its happened to yours.

If this has happened you'll need a new tank, otherwise just a cap.

Hi guys as some of you may know this is a new freelander to me and my 1st one ive owned.
I noticed looking through the wealth of paperwork and reciepts that I have with it that it recently had a radiator pipe supplied and by checking fitted i presume by previous owner.
So bled system just in case. Using bleed screw.
Tons of air came out and now all seems great but will keep a check for a week or so.
Loving this motor.
Thanks for advice

Sounds like the correct bleed procedure wasn't followed correctly.
Keep an eye on the coolant level, as it will drop as any remaining air is displaced.
