also just wondered how practical it would be to use a landy for work around about 30-40 area from home on a daily basis. cheers

I have just bought another Landrover (picked it up today) and will be doing around 2000 - 3000 miles a month in it. I have owned (well they were company cars before) 2 land Rover's before and my experience is that you could do with spending some effort to soundprooof it. The noise is the only thing that is a negative really, oh and the mpg is not too hot.

I have bought one with a few creature comforts as it will get a lot of use but essentially reduce the noise is my tip apart from the usual make sure you get a reliable one and maintain it properly.

By the way I soundproofed my last one using thick carpet underlay and that made a big difference, it was cheap to buy too. I cut out the shapes with scissors then I just stuck it down using spray glue from the carpet shop.

thanks for the tip. im used to noise tho cos my other car is a 1980 mini clubman estate, not the quietest ride you've ever had!!

We bought a Series 3 Ex-Military in 2000 and it's now our everyday car. We got rid of our "normal" car coz it never left the drive after that!

the fun factor far outweighs the noise/draughts etc.:D

Well, we went for diesel because (at the time) it was cheaper than petrol

Now it's the other way round.

If you go offroading a lot then diesels have better engine-braking on the downhill bits.

I don't really think there's much in it - they're not very fast, but if you want to go fast buy an R1!

thanks for all the advice over the last few weeks. sadly due to finances gotta put the plans on hold for a while, but hey, will get one sorted asap. cheers steve d
