Hello all,

This is my first post on landyzone - it's nice to meet you all.

I have a 2010 county station wagon 110/ Defender. It's standard spec apart from upgraded side lights/ indicators/ brake lights, radiator grill & alloys. I've had it a year & I think it's bloody wonderful.
I'd welcome advice on two areas & my apologies in advance if these are well-trodden paths:

1. Vehicle Security

There are Landys being stolen left right & centre in my neck of the woods (Peak District). So far I've been lucky, perhaps as I have the benefit of a driveway. However, I'm conscious I should introduce some security features for this less innocent age. I've £200 to spend, but what should my priorities be? Tamper proof nuts/ bolts, pedal locks, steering lock, gps tracker or something else? Currently I've a motorbike chain & padlock around a wheel so it's at least a visual deterrent.

2. Workshop manuals

I've stripped down a Triumph Spitfire or two in my time & have some mechanical competency. I would like at least a basic knowledge for emergency repairs on the road. Given there is no Haynes manual for Puma Landys, what is my best option for a workshop manual?

Your advice would be most welcome.
 
Smartwater were doing a lifetime registration offer for 15 quid all in, if you google them theres loads of their discount codes about.

Many years ago I always bought the haynes for whatever car I had at the time, but for many years I havent bothered, as A, Im a mech and more relevant B, its all out there on google for free.
 
Diskloc. At the end of the day you'll never stop someone if they really want to steal it, however it's a very visual deterrent and it also looks very dodgy if you are seen trying to remove it!

It's a Defender - it can NEVER have too much security, and nothing is overkill.
 
there are some decent pedal locks out there and an awful lot of reviews
stick as many layers of security that you can on it .the scumbags might get tired and move on to pastures new
 
Wow - now that's praise and service for you....glad it was returned safe and sound.

Defo on the list of stuff to buy on payday.
I know I wouldn't have the discipline to use pedal or wheel locks so it's ideal for me, fit and forget until I need it. I told the bloke at skytag I'd recommend them to everybody buying a tratter:p
 
Fit security screws to stop them taking the headlight/surround out to disable the horm.
Change door hinge bolts for security type (make sure they're water proof) or do what lightning says below.
Make sure yer got an alarm with movement sensing.
Be careful where yer leave it.
Get the windows etched and registered with http://www.isrcodecheck.com

Be careful where yer park/leave it.
Take photo's of it in case it's robbed to help identify it. Known marks/dents etc also.
HippoGuard is probably the best security protection available. ;)

I too am in the Peak District and have a 110 TD5.

Disc lock, pedal lock, tracking device, 5mm ball bearings tapped into door hinge allen bolts.
Move the alarm sounder (there's a cable available) put a plastic coated lock around the spare wheel.
Get it insured for an agreed value, so at least if it does go, you'll get paid out the full value and be able to replace it.

Clutch claw I think, came up a couple weeks ago, few people had theirs opened with a key and left on the drive!

Quoted as normal then jumped to another thread.......Did not know if it would work, but it did....:p

OK, Yeah I heard about that happening on one of those, did not realise there were more. Still not sure how it was done though.

Not sure either, apparently a basic lock is used and the keys can be bought online... saw of 1 on LZ and 3 on FB nicked the same way.
