Hi guys.
As the title suggests. I've a barrel of Morris ep80w-90 and a 4.6 auto box and transfer box p38 in need of new fluid. Any compatibility here?

Cheers

It will kill the auto box and is not correct for the transfer box, both need Dexron 3.
Thanks guys.

Next problem... I've fitted a new chain to the transfer box but now it is stuck in neutral. The motor works and is whirring away. Have I put it back together wrong? The shaft that spins to push and pull the gears... can that become unseated?

Thanks guys.

You could have the motor in the wrong position inside the tranny box🤔

The motor has to be in a position that matches the tranny box.
I've not been there myself but there are a few more experienced bods that can clarify better than myself 👍

I'm thinking the motor thinks it's in high but the box is in low. So if I switch the motor to low whilst off the box I can refit and the two will both be singing each other's sweet songs?

That is very logical but be sure to examine the motor position and it's mating part to verify this incase any damage is caused to either party👍

You have also to have it timed to the electrical contacts. The details will be in RAVE the workshop manual.

Not sure what that means. I also don't have rave I'm afraid.
If it is still there, you may be able to download RAVE from the technical archive. There are a set of electrical contacts with the motor that tells the electronics the position of the motor, hi, lo or neutral.

Aha. I am a complete buffoon when it comes to these things. I'll download it and see if I can decipher anything.

Does anyone know where I can locate a downloadable version of RAVE for the P38? I'm on a doom spiral to nowhere here...

Try this found on the net.

Its not Rave as such but the workshop manual and the ETM (electrical trouble shooting manual) are both there

wmlp990e right at the bottom is the WSM
etlp9xx (depending in year/edition) 1 of them is the ETM.

Thanks marjon,

I have this now but I'm no electrician and I'm not sure that it helps me really.

So if the transfer box is in neutral (are you sure?)
Then if you put in the fuse (11?) this puts the TB in neutral for towing. That will shift the motor if its off to the neutral position.

Then put the motor back on, remove the fuse and it should go back to Hi ( i think).

Sounds logical to me anyway.

No, the transfer box is in Low. It remains in low whichever side of the H gate the lever is. The thing beeps 5 times, indicates that it's in High or Low but the transfer box itself stays in Low.

Take the motor off, get someone to move the gear lever across the gate, with the ignition on and look to see if the motor operates. If the motor operates, move the gear lever to low, turn off the ignition and refit the motor ensuring the shaft engages with transfer box and doesn't move as you fit it. Then try and see if it will shift to high.
If the motor does not operate when off the transfer box, it's likely that it being jammed has blown the drive transistors in the ECU which resides under the passenger seat, any smell of burning down there?
