Right, got the engine out and have done the stuff that needed doing! now getting it back in we have spent quite a bit of time wiggleing it about but the main shaft will not go back into the clutch! has any one got any tips or tricks that will help us to get everything back in again?

cheers

yes everyting is centered! can get the unsplined bit of the shaft in, but cant seem to get engine perfectley allined for splines to interlock.

there isnt any "trick" to this - just make sure the vehicle is level and that the engine is the same - having a load leveller of your engine hoist will help much more than you'd think as there is only a few degrees between fit and no fit

put into a gear, then turn front pulley with a spanner and splines shud enter into clutch friction plate, make sure that bellhousing and engine are spot on in line as they are/can be bastids if out of align

Stop, go and have a cup of tea, relax, then go back and try again, taking in the advise above.
You have got a jack under the gearbox so that you can adjust the angle of this haven't you?

ask dave mentioned, i'd also recommend havin a jack under the g/box for adjustin the angle, really helped me when i was workin on me own pullin out engines!

i know it dint help here but if yer take the g/box out put a 1/2af socket between the injun and x/member. this keeps the injun at the reet height and angle of the dangle fer ease of refitting g/box
