Hi,the engine warning light came on as I was parking my D2 V8 yesterday.
Today I have checked the oil & anti-freeze these are OK.Fired her up,sounds loverly:) but light still on. Checked to see if there were any fuses related to the warning light,nothing.Started her up again & she spluttered quite abit to beggine with, this could be to much petrol,as I did'nt run the engine very long the first time.
One thing I did notice yesterday was that after driving for about 1hr. I stopped at traffic lights and the car seem to vibrate for 4-5sec.,& again when I stopped to reverse up my drive way.It's an auto.box so I did'nt use the handbrake or footbrakes,just "rested" on tick over.
This is a 2003 disco2 which has done 96 000 klm.----any ideas v8 people:)

Engine management ECU problems. you will have to get it 'pluged in' and read to find out what.

Thanks for your advice,living in Oslo we don't have a very big L.r.service network,so it could take acouple of wks.before I can get it looked.But I'll let you know what's wrong.

That's a shame you can always push and pull any electrical connection u can lay your hands on.

U have seen this in the owners handbook.

Check engine - AMBER*
The light illuminates as a bulb and
system check when the starter
switch is turned on, and
extinguishes as soon as the engine is started.
Illumination at any other time indicates an
engine fault - if the light illuminates while
driving, avoid high speeds and seek qualified
assistance urgently.
 
That's a shame you can always push and pull any electrical connection u can lay your hands on.

The only problem with doing that is it will show up more faults when he gets the vehicle plugged in. If it's a decent garage doing it they should make a note of what was showing up, delete em, test drive and then re-check. A lot of garages these days seem to like simply plugging in and telling you what shows up and then deleting em. Easy money. Read the faults, clear em and then charge for doing it. They then leave the customer to find the actual fault using the basic information they were given.

Bit harsh!
Most people only want the light switching off as they don't want to spend money when i try and explain the fault all I seem to be getting is " is the light off great here's the money bye!"
 
Sounds like it could be misfiring, so engine light may have come on because lambda sensors have detected too much unburnt fuel in the exhaust, quite common chain of events on all semi-modern petrol cars.

yes you will have to have the system checked, but you can do your own diagnosis aswell as stated above, by checking the igntion system components and trying to establish if you have a spark at each cylinder.

the electronic coil packs as fitted to the D2 can and do suddenly fail, so it could be something as simple as that.

Thats where I've got lucky,she's booked in at a real Land Rover V8 freak,tomorrow 11 am:) So I let you all know the result------ and the price-that will prob.make you laugh/or cry
 
The MIL light on my D2 came on randomly so I got an ELM 327 interface of the NET and some software (can't remember the name) so I could plug my laptop in my D2. Wasn't much money either. It worked perfectly, came up with a fault code (Purge Valve) which was changed so I reset the faults and all done. I plug it in every couple of weeks just for peace of mind - it comes up with a 'rich bank' code sometimes which the LPG guy says is common on conversions
