I have to bite the bullet and swap my engine in my TD5, I'm going to tackle this myself but have a few questions. I plan looking out for a whole donor vehicle.

Will a donor engine just plug and play or do I need to change ecu/electronics ? What about immobiliser ? Coding of injectors ? Really just wondering about this side of things at the moment.

I'm sure there will be many more questions I have. Any answers appreciated thanks.

Is your old engine toast?
Not done a swap myself, but I would say getting a complete car would be a better move than just an engine, hopefully you can hear the engine running etc.
I would say engine swap should include the ECU.
Not sure about other things though.

All in all it will probably save some potential headache to also get the matched ECU. Make sure you get an engine/ecu combo that matches your transmission type.

You won't need to recode injectors that way (assuming the vendor isnt telling porkies and they really are a matched pair), but you will need to sync the BCU and ECU to get the immobiliser to disable. Nanocom probably required.

Engine is toast compression down number two cylinder not ecu, injectors or loom etc resulting in misfire and plumes of never ending blue smoke, rings for sure....................Im looking for a donor car, I had wondered about ecu, immobiliser etc but now I know, thanks for all the answers, reassures me Im on the right lines............cheers stu

+1

There's a full write up of a complete engine rebuild buried in my thread that might be useful too, see link in my sig. But it's always good to see new pics :D
