Dear Friends, Recently my 4.6 HSE was hit by a lamppost, which severely damaged the body (beyond economically sensible repair). My Classic 95 has been sitting for a while with a tired 3.9 engine and I am contemplating transferring the still very juicy P38 Thor engine (Bosch motronic) into the Classic. Thoughts, knowledge, insights anybody? Does someone have experience? Is it do-able at reasonable cost, engine plus transmission possible (better match)? Engine only? What challenges lay ahead? I understand that I would need to transfer the control units ansd wiring as well. Your responses are apreciated! Joost

You would need to find a way of enabling the engine ECU, this is normally done via a handshake with the BECM.

This is not a simple swap. Was gona put a 4.6 in to my hotrod in the avitar, but it needed to be converted to run a dizzy as the 4.6 doesnt have one. So you need to swap the front timing cover and also fit a drive gear to run it. also i think you need to modify the front crank nose as the 4.6 has got a crank driven oil pump not a gear driven one. Some of the 3.9 bits will swap over but its not as easy as it first seems. I ended up putting a 4.2 in it instead. Look on this site.

sell yer p38 for bits and use the money to get the 3.9 in the classic rebuilt. dont contaminate yer classic purity with unreliable p38-itus :p

Loads of hassle....not worth it.
Sell the parts and if needs be buy a new short 3.9/4.2 short motor with the money.
