I'm thinking of swapping my 2.5n/a diesel for a 200tdi in my 1989 90. Is it a straight swap? Are there any wiring complications etc. What, if any are the hidden problems? I have been told that because it is an "i" as oppose to a 200td that there could be complications with the wiring.

It is a fairly straight forward conversion, and has beens covered many times on here. There are no real hidden problems to worry about, and the i in the 200TDi refers to intercooled, nothing to do with electrics. IIRC land rover produced a guide on retro fitting 200TDi engines into earlier models. I will see if I can locate and put it into the Defender section.

Dont beat your sef up Mister I've been on here ages ,an't got a clue wot im doing and hate looking for suff.
You should find some threads where a TDI was fited without the turbo (option to fit later) could be an idear if insurance is an issue.

:beer2:

The turbo is in a different position.

Also need some conversion piping with disco 200tdi not sure about a defender 200tdi though.
