Well after 2 years sitting in the shed I finally took the engine out of my basket case LSE. Don't talk to me about bell housing bolts!!

Anyway after a bit of a battle the engine is out and I need to get it on to an engine stand but can see I will need an adapter to bolt it on the stand so I wondered if anybody has any info on a suitable adapter. Cheers.
 
Thanks Ste, looks like I was having a dense moment :eek: Turn it round a bit!

Anyway, just need to get some long 3/8 UNC bolts and I'm good to go. Can't wait to get inside this lump but plenum and ram housing were really clean, much better than I expected but I guess it will want timing chain, cam, followers and water pump just for starters.
 
For holding it to the engine stand, I usually use 10mm threaded bar and nuts with mine lol

Hahaha well sort of Sam. I was having a bit of a dense moment. Anyway all sorted now, got some long 3/8 UNC bolts and all good to go. The only thing I need to do now is figure out a way of holding the crank to undo the crank nut. Any ideas? I am working on a way to do it, just need some 5mm steel to make a bracket but if you know an easier way I'd appreciate it.

Yeah tbh the schoolboy error is not undoing the nut before removing the engine from the vehicle, cos then you can use the starter!

Otherwise some kind of flywheel locking device is favourite, or then sump off and bar in crank or as JM says the modern method is impact gun :D
 
If you have an old inlet or exhaust valve laying around, bend it at 90° about half way down the shaft. This will now sit in a bell housing bolt hole, with the larger end of the valve sitting into the flywheel starter teeth. In one side it will lock opening, and the other side will do tightening.
I have used this for flywheel bolts and clutch bolts when the box is only moved back a bit. Not tried it for crank pbolt, but may be of use.

Molegrips on flywheel, turn crank until Molegrips jam against block then undo crank nut tis easy
 
Thanks all for your input but have sorted it.

I bodged together a bracket that holds the front pulley. There is a 5mm wide slot on the pulley and lining this up close to the lower timing case bolt and the power steering pump stay bolt I was able to make a simple plate that attached to the timing case then I welded a spacer on the flat bracket then welded a finger of 5mm steel that engages the slot.

The welding wasn't pretty but it works a treat, job done! Cheers.
