The old girl has sprung a leak from P gasket AGAIN!!
It only does it under load (towing).

So gonna wip the hole engine out and gonna rebuilt it as its got 220,000 miles on it.
Question is;
Where do I get parts from ie crank bearing pistons rings and what not.
I want them at a good price but also good quality.

Also would like a bit more power from the TDI, is there any up grades that I can put on in the process or is it not worth it?

My head gasket went whilst on holiday , so after a big bill for towing home , i decided id go to town and give her a rebuild .

rebored and crank ground so far . going to get bearing shells etc from island 4x4 as they are the best price and you get a choice of quality's on most items .
To be honest i didnt fancy chancing the britpart pistons /rings @ £25 each (bit too cheap for my likeing )
My local engine parts place wanted £75 each for hepolite

i went for oem pistons from turner engineering in the end £46 ish i think .

i must get round to putting it back together soon

p.s. at least you had a p gasket ! some bodger in the past had used silicone sealant instead , so thats were the coolant went then !!

cheers Mike

Just deal with the coolant leak, the engine is barely run in, no need for a re-build ;)

Rings are going/gone on cylinder 3 thou!
I noticed it when I done a top end rebuild and really wanted to do it then but funds wouldn't allow

Thanks for that helps a lot :)

I use lrdirect.com for my parts. It's abit of a ball ache as you need part numbers, but can't complain about their prices and service!

Cant you reuse the pistons and put new rings on?

I would use new rings, hone the bores, measure the crank/check for damage, fit new bearings, new head gasket, check the cam for wear, new water pump, timing belt, job done :)

Eh? I thought the whole idea was you was rebuilding it ????

How do you think you are going to rebuild an engine withought doing any work?
