Hello! Just bought my first Land Rover! A 2003 Discovery 2 with 4.0 V8. I have a question about it. The engine oil light stays on for a few minutes, then turns off, supposedly when the engine is warm. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Iffy switch maybe, they are cheap to purchased and easy to place, at the same time replace engine oil and filter if it has been done recently.

Use a genuine filter (with a non-return valve) & decent mineral engine oil, such as 20w50 or at least 15w40. A product containing a high level of ZDDP is good bet. If you've never changed RV8 engine oil before be careful how you drain the first couple of litres of (hot) oil or you'll have it all over your hands/arms/floor as the plug is on the side of the sump

More than likely the switch playing up..

That oil light would more than likely be accompanied with a nice valvetrain rattle, and usually the Oil pressure drops off when the hot, usually a flicker which gets progressively worse..

I'd check the Oil pressure myself just to be sure.

The Oil pressure sensor is a 22mm IIRC nut which is a pain in the arse to get access a spanner works ok, if you do a pressure check you need a M12x1.5 adapter. :)

As said by noresman it has to run a thicker grade 20w50 - 10w50 or what i use a 10w60 ;)

Oil pressure should be 50 psi at 2,000 rpm
