Hi all. I am in Australia and have purchased a 1980 Series iii 109 HardTop. It has a 5 bearing diesel in however the engine number is not your typical number. It is S11J00388C. From my understanding the S could indicate that this is a replacement engine and the 11J is a military spec engine. Can anyone confirm (or deny this)?

I have as well but I thought I would try here because it doesn't appear to be a series engine. I think it's from a 90/110 hence why I posted.
In which case that is a good idea. However I agree with Hicap Phil, photo will hopefully get a better and more accurate response.

I hope you get the info you need. It may be worth asking on the LRUK forum too as there seem to be lots of knowledgeable series guys on there.

No idea about the S, but 11J is used on 2.5 Naturally Aspirated diesels.

Like they say, ^^^^^^, pics of the entire engine would be helpful.
 
And the glow plugs are not connected. It fires up straight away.
If it is warm where you are, that isn't a surprise.
It is also good news, as it shows that things like your fuel injection system, air intake, valve clearances, and engine timing are in good order.
 
More a question of suggestions from others prompting vague memories.
I don't think I have seen an actual engine from a Sherpa for 25 years!

As you have done so well on that one, any idea where he can get bits for it in Aussie?

…although LDV have a big network for spares in Australia, I’d give one of their outlets a tug and give them the challenge to find vintage spares!

Good suggestion.

I know zip about what Leyland did out in Oz, and what still lingers from the operation over there.
