Hi, wondering if anyone could help. I have a 98 Discovery 1 V8 which is making a strange noise whilst driving on acceleration. Sounds like a whine/shallow chug from the engine compartment. This does not happen when revving whilst at a standstill, or whilst moving when coasting.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.

If it's an auto the noise could be coming from the 'box or converter. Sitting under the bulkhead, noises can appear to be coming from the engine bay. Having said that, wining (usually caused by a clogged filter) is more likely to occur when the 'box is cold & is audible all the time until the fluid heats up.

Thanks Norseman, yeah it is an auto, have not had it on a long run since posting as another problem has arrived that means it wont go. When I get her running again will investigate, need to sort this one out first.
