Hello, can any kind soul point me in the right direction. I have an 05 reg Freelander 1, the engine malfunction indicator light (MIL) has decided to stay on after starting the engine. The handbook says "if it illuminates and the vehicle drives normally", which it does, "arrange a service appointment at your earliest convenience - you may still drive the vehicle"
When I start up in the morning there is a good amount of blue exhaust fumes that comes out like a cloud then it's okay after that, ie, no smoke and drives perfectly normal. Is this something simple to remedy so the lamp extinguishes as it should? I would be most grateful for any suggestions, thanking you in anticipation, B.

The engine light can come on for any number of reasons. Some pretty pointless ones and some 'Oh Sh1t' ones.
You really need a code reader plugging in to give you an idea. It could be any of the sensors have packed up causing over fueling, to a faulty injector.
As it's an 05 reg most OBDII readers will give you an idea.
