Hi

Having trouble with my 2002 52 plate TD4. She's got 71000 on the clock.

About a week ago I kept getting the amber engine light on when going up hill on at about 70. After advice from this forum, I have replaced the fuel filter and tried it but was no better or worse. I have now replaced the pump, with a genuine land rover one.

It is now even worse, took it for a run down the dual carriage way. Smokes like a tractor, no power and now the light comes on when going up hill at any speed, theres no power and it takes longer for the light to go back out.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is it a dodgy pump, or something else.

Help please

Blue smoke (oil) or black smoke (unburned fuel) ? if black check the intercooler hoses (holed or closing up under revs) if blue could be the turbo bearings/seals have gone allowing engine oil to be sucked into the inlet system, check the oil level first, if level has dropped considerably then i would suspect the turbo.

Intercooler hoses - bet it's the small right angled one on right of engine - split underneath where you cannot see it - well it was on mine anyhow with exact symptoms. It is unreal the effect this has on the engine performance.

The long one on the left had worn through on the engine brkt and screw on mine, the short one had already been changed.

Cheers for the advice. Will check the hoses and oil later, as the smoke is definately black. Im hoping it's just a hose. The crankcase breather was done on the service about 5k ago, so should still be O.K.

Thanks
