A question to you smarties on here..

The engine on me 2000 1.8 petrol manual 2nd HG etc etc is running terribly...when idle it sounds as if it is 'missing' now and then, reminds me of my lawnmower!

Being that I'm in france and every visit to the garage ends up in a shrug and a big bill, any clues from anyone before I take it down there?

In the old days of my escort, we would change the plugs and clean the rotor arm on the distributor cap etc which did sort out problems like these sometimes.....but who knows what goes on under that bonnet!

Have you replaced the dizzy cap, that would be a good place to start, checking plugs plus leads.

You mention a 2nd hgf??? did the head need skimmed the first hgf? or have the liner dropped into the block?

Thanks for the reply...as I said, I haven't really touched any car since my escort mk4 and have been a bit wary about what's what...

anway - will have a look for the dizzy cap etc...have had a quick look under the bonnet and I see something that could be it!
