Hi Guys,
I have a 1998 RR 2.5 dse Auto which is displaying the " Engine Disabled Press Remote" message.I see that this seems to be a problem as I have read through all the previous threads on this Forum.
I have tried re-synchronising the key using the different methods given with no success. I have entered the EKA code umpteen times to no avail. I notice now that the key only works when in the lock and not remotely.
I would really appreciate any help you could give me.

Have you tried entering the key code whilr the other key is in the ignition? and also if the code dosent work the first time you have to wait at least 10 min before you try again and can also take up to 4 hrs before it will accept the code again.
also have you tried pressing the key fob while locking and unlocking the door manually

Yes I have the owners manual and followed the procedures they give.I have also tried Overlandrover 's advice on leaving one key in ign and entering the code. Could there be a problem with the BECM?

please explain how you have entered eka cde from start to finish , you may possibly be doing it wrong , i have had recent problems but specialist has showed me how to do it correctly , also is your fob syncd in properly to car ???? cheers mozz ps where are you based ?

Try putting key in ignition turning to position one and pressing lock unlock buttons.

To enter the EKA code.(a) I turn key Four Turns to left (b) x turns to right (c) y turns to left (d) v turns to right (e) w turns to left (f) then one turn to right to open lock.
I also tried putting key in ign and pressing lock/unlock at position 1.
I had problems with battery going flat and I would disconnect it when charging .Could this possibly corrupt one of these ECUs? Based in Donegal Ireland.
Thanks for the replies.

P38's hate having their batteries going flat or being disconnected on a regular basis. If the EKA has not sorted the problem, chances are you have lost the security "Handshake" between the Becm and the engine ECU, The Becm may have locked itself out. You could also have a sticking door latch microswitch which is not sending the correct number of pulses when you are inputting the EKA.

Another one of the problems on the RR tick list eh!

The following worked for me when my P38 suffered the same problem due to a battery at the end of its life....

Start with the vehicle locked and use the 'generic' code. 1515

Unlock once
lock 5 times,
unlock once,
and then lock 5 times.

You know you've done each turn correctly as the indicators flash once for each completed turn.

Now you should be able to unlock with the fob button and the engine should no longer be immobilized. (Worked for me)

(The above I found on rangerovers.net a while back)

Hope it helps

hi joed have a look on a post P38 keyfob on jarmin 2610 on todays or yesterdays post read the part when syncin fob to car then try on yours .let me know how you get on p.s. dont rush it or it wont sync cheers mozz

Having exhausted all the methods of synchronising and entereing the key code.I have decided to send the BECM to Irishrover to be unlocked. A few years back I had a problem with the transmission ECU on my MF tractor which was also caused by swopping batteries and jump starting.I should have known better! Thanks for all the help.

:welcome2:hi joed, thanks for pm . yes its a good move if the irish rover cant sort it nobody can . hes top lad knows his stuff a nice chap to deal with ....let me know the outcome cheers , mozz :):)
