seriously - Has this begun suddenly or has it been a problem that's progressively become worse?
You do have enough petrol in it don't you?
It could be a faulty fuel pump, but it would be letting you know it was starting to fail prior to this.
The pump's fuel filter could also be clogged - not an expensive part unless you are replacing the pump as well.

Sorry what a terribly worded starting thread by me.
Freezie (nickname for our Freelander) went into the garage to get a new back door latch on Monday. Was fine on Tuesday, Wednesday then this morning took three attempts to get engine running. No previous signs that this was going to happen. After work however problem occurred again it will cuts off every time and the engine continually cuts off.
How much we talking for a fuel pump supplied and fitted by a garage if it's not just the filter?

No, you could do it yourself. No special tools needed. 13mm spanner / socket to disconnect battery, cross head screw driver, large flat bladed screw driver, hammer & a supply of rags, bucket / container to place old pump into.
#1 disconnect battery
#2 tilt rear right seat forward
#3 remove / move carpet out of the way
#4 remove the four cross head screws and lift cover off
#5 disconnect the electrical wires from pump.
#6 wipe / dust the pump area to ensure debris doesn't get into fuel tank. - have some rags on hand to soak up any split fuel and a container to place the pump into [ it will have some fuel still in it.
#7 disconnect the fuel line - squeeze tabs and pull
#8 using a large flat blade screw driver and a light hammer tap the locking ring anticlockwise and remove - put to one side
#9 prise up the pump - it will be stiff - that seal gets a good grip!
#10 fit new seal to tank opening
#11 insert new pump

Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to post this and let you know I'll be back here if and when the fuel pump goes.
I think what happened was when the car went in the garage on Monday to have the rear door latch and a weld on the exhaust and the mechanic didn't tighten the negative battery cable tightly enough which in turn had been causing it do cut out making us presume a fuel pump failure was the issue.
I only noticed this when I replaced the battery for a new one.
A Landrover specialist ran a test on the battery this morning and deemed it faulty, so even he didn't notice it. If I'd checked that first I could have saved myself £47 on a new one.
The AA Landrover specialist did advise that a battery these days will only last about 3 years. The battery replaced however was the original from 2003 so I don't know how accurate "3 years" is..
