I have been offered a 100k 2.5 6cyl turbo diesel from a vauxhall omega which I believe is the same engine as used in the P38 Range Rover. Now I have a 300TDI auto Disco 1 here that is poorly in the engine department but otherwise in good order and this seemed a pottential engine swap that might give me a bit more refinement and a little more grunt to play with. So id like to know if anyone has done this conversion before. My thoughts are the most difficult part of the conversion is going to be engine electrics so a P38 loom would probably be required. Im also concerned about the length of the engine in the engine bay.

I wouldn't be considering the swap if I hadn't been offered this engine for very little so what is involved in converting a 300tdi to a BMW TDS.

The engine is pretty good, but a little weak, (personally I prefer the V6 petrol engines - guess what my last car was!) but it is long and you may have issues fitting it.

As is it is in a lower state of tune than a TD5, it isn't that great, but is tuneable to a reasonable output.
