Help! My block is cracked and I need some group advice on what to do - repair or replace, and if replace: with what???

 
What have you got in there at the moment? Some will say a 200tdi but these are getting harder to find these days. if you just do local miles and you already have a diesel in there, put a 2.5 n/a out of an early 90/110 or military Land Rover, there are plenty of good units out there, removed for tdi conversions.
 
200di same exhaust and radiator mates to gearbox , no oil cooler and no turbo to go wrong , bullet proof
 
I had a crack in mine, somewhere below/behind the exhaust manifold
Had someone braze it quite successfully. The key difference from regular welding is you're not melting the metal of the block
 
Plenty of 300TDis sat around in rotting Discos which can easily be made to fit a Series
