evening gents, I finally got the engine running in my series 2 this evening and so I can continue with my restoration, my question is though, what colour should be engine be?

its a 1966. 2 1/4 diesel. 88 inch

I have been told duck egg blue but I always thought that was the colour of the military ones?

please enlighten me

Take it you are going original? Mine is red but that's an 1983 Series 3, it's the original engine.

I always thought the duck egg blue used on military engines was also used on the 3 bearing 2.25 civilian engine, with the later 5 bearing engines changing to red - Mines a 1975 S3 and it has an original engine that is duck egg blue

any way to tell if its a 3 or 5 bearing without taking it apart?

5 bearing have a ladder-frame web casting around the bottom of the block

I think the serial number of the engine from a set number meant 5 bearing, will have a quick search as I've seen it on a website.

3 bearing light green

5 bearing has the strengthening webs cast into the block (like the 12J and 19J 2.5ltr diesels)
