I do a bit of Djing in my spare time and my insurance policy for the disco gear states I must have an emobilser and an alarm fitted professionaly to cover theft from vehicle while unattended.

Any black spots to look out for with these 2 security measures. Rough idea of costs? It is a 1987 Defender 90.

I have a Toad Thatcham Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser fitted to my 1988 Hybrid. Price is about £300 plus fitting (just had a quick check). Previous owner of mine fitted it (it's actually branded MAX Power on the keyfobs).

Basically it has sensors on the doors, rear door and bonnet as well as Ultrasound motion sensors inside. The ignition is tapped off and goes through the alarm unit as well, hence the immobilising part. Bit of a git as it auto arms after 30 seconds, but there is a disarm function (Valet mode) that I spend most of my time turning on.

With my experience gained from last weekend, be careful when removing the floor as it can damage the wire to the rear door sensor and cause problems. Likewise, the bonnet sensor needs regular cleaning and WD40. Also the unit itself is mounted on the bulkhead right next to the brake servo and can get wet, so a small water deflector place a few inches in front of it is a good idea.
