Hi just bought my first RR.It's a 4.6 hse p38 M Reg with lpg fitted 104000 miles, it seems to have lots of electrical problems.
The heating control panel doesnt work properly or the heaters, the srs light is on all the time the windows want to keep winding up even when their shut and the central locking is all over the place.
Also I have a gas leak that seems to be coming out of the air box when the car stops and is left running.:mad:
Please help!!
 
There is only one solution to find out exactly what is going on with your RR.

Your going to have to take it to a LR specialist and put it on a testbook.

Worse case scenario is take it to an official LR dealer, but they will charge you more per hour labour wise.

Search locally for a specialist garage that can deal with LR vehicles.

I hope you didnt pay too much for your RR, it sounds like the previous owner wanted to shift it as fast as possible with all those potential costly problems.
 
First off, lets start with the heating (HEVAC). Is there a book symbol displayed? can you see the display clearly? what other symptoms are there?.

Windows. Disconnect the battery (read manual to prevent alarm going off ) then again, look in the manual to see how to re-set the windows - from memory - all the way up and then hold for 2 seconds, then all the way down and hold then all the way up again and hold. You should heare a beep to confirm window is set.

Does the car take a long time to rise after you have left it for a while, and can you here the compresssor running a lot?

Answer these and we will see if we can help..
 
Hi cheers rewmer for replying the heating does have a book and I can see it clearly.The symptoms are when I turn it up it keeps turning back down when twisting the dial and there is no heat unless I rev the life out of it.
Will have a go at the windows and sunroof cheers for the advice.
The car doesnt take long to rise, but the compressor is gonig quite alot.
And finally Adam thankfully I didnt pay to much only paid £2700 for this car so shouldnt lose out to much "I Hope".

What I also suggest you carry to lift the reliability of your RR.

1. Replace your RF receiver from the old defective original part AFR1953 which is subject to battery drains and engine lock outs to part number: YWY500170 which eliminates these issues and stops the cars RF receiver from being bombarded with spurious RF signals from CCTV in car parks etc that will lock you out your car, drain its battery and immobilise your engine.

2. The original alternator is 80amp. This is OK and does its job, but I have found that it just about does its job and with a lot of electrical goodies on a P38 does put a strain on the electrics can leave it weak. What I suggest is upgrading it to a 120amp and improves the battery performance as it doesn’t strain it as much and improves prolongs the life.

3. Buy and replace it with either an official LR battery or a very good quality after market one with a good reputation for reliability and power. Putting a cheap nasty battery in a RR is the worst thing anyone can do. The electrics on P38's are terrible for a £50K car so being thrifty on expenditure is ill advised.

4. Check all hoses for the cruise control and air con. With your and my RR's these will have started to perish and start to cause problems. The cruise control hose is very simple to replace and only needs a new hose and clips to put right. Unfortunately the air con is a swine to get at and may require a good garage so as to gain access. If these air con hoses perish you will see oil patches underneath your car and the testbook sign on the HEVAC display. This may rack up a small hefty bill of about £500 at LR. Seek a local LR specialist as the main cost is down to labour.

5. The fuse boxes are also prone to failure and at £80 they are fairly cheap to replace and should be considered as a sensible move after all this time due to electrical issues.

6. Three words “Service!” “Service!” “Service!” With all RR's the engines are considered bullet proof if serviced well and properly. If you thought your RR was going to be a cheap car to maintain, it can be, but this depends on servicing the vehicle when problems arise and not left until something critical occurs.
