I am terrible with electrics, and have searched around for similar problems and have a few ideas but I'm not sure. Bear with me

I have a wonderful 300tdi, runs nicely and so on, and I haven't had any problems with the electrics until now.

The symptoms:

The headlights flicker when driving along, however they work perfectly well when accelerating at average and above revs. After about 10-15 mins of driving, they seem to work fine at all times.

When indicating, the dash lights seem to go off like a disco room, with the headlight, fog light, trailer light and indicator light flashing quickly, as if they are having a rave on speed.

A couple of times in the last few days, the landy hasn't started up first try, and I then have to reclick the immobiliser buttons to try again. Has worked second try both times.

My guesses:

My first thought was wires criss crossing naked somewhere, which is why the fog light and what not comes on and raves together at junctions.

Then I thought alternator, because that is something electrical. No idea how it works and when current is drawn from that instead of the battery (if that is what an alternator does).

Then a co-worker suggested an earthing fault somewhere which would explain the disco party, however after driving for a while everything improves.... would an earth fault be temperamental?

And my latest thought is a ****ty battery. It has been a few years since the last one according to the previous owner's documents. When (if) it stops raining I'm going to head out and wiggle the connections to the battery to see if it is just a poor connection there, but they seem to be sitting in place like they should.

So yeah, any help would be much appreciated. I'm a total noob with electronics, so it could even be a dodgey fuse connection or something

I would start with your earths buddy, I've got a problem
With my wipers coming on with indicators or if I presss the horn I believe these to be earth related. I've ran additional earths in some places and noticed a difference in the lights look brighter and I don't get the fuses blow anymore so start there.

Somebody posted a electrics manual on here this morning I think.
And you can check your alternator by using a multimeter simply put it on the terminals whilst engine is running and you should see between 13-14v with the alternator charging.
