I'm fitting an electric fan in my series 3, the Revotech kit. Mechanically installation is very simple but I'm looking for some advice on which circuit (ignition switched) is going to be best to use that's up for the current. It's going to be wired up next to the battery.

Has anybody fitted similar?

Otherwise I guess I'll just find an ignition switched wire and use it to drive a relay with a feed straight from the battery terminal with an inline fuse. Think that'll look a bit messy though.
 
You can get relays with in built fuses.
A well placed relay on the inner wing will look ok. Make sure the fan is set the correct way for air flow
 
I literally have mine wired how you suggest ie relay/switch done, if you use a man enough switch then you wont even need the relay.
Best to avoid spurring off any of the original very old wiring.

Always worth fitting a battery isolator for anti theft and leccy issues that can be isolated immediately.
 
I took a new spur from the battery, new fuse and relay box, ignoring the ignition system completely. Works, tidy.

Does look very tidy that! I see your point about the ancient wiring, I'll go with an extra tap off the battery then.
 
I took a new spur from the battery, new fuse and relay box, ignoring the ignition system completely. Works, tidy.
This is exactly what I did on my 110 for the electric fan I fitted. Additional relay box, additional fuse box, and spur run straight form the battery with an ignition feed through a switch to trigger the relay. I went a step further and fitted a temp switch as well using the x-fan coupler from foundry 4x4 so it will come on automatically (as long as ignition is on) as well as an override switch.
