FYI, the new regulations only apply where an EGR was fitted by the manufacturer and later removed (8.2.2.1 Exhaust emission control equipment - https://www.mot-testing.service.gov...s3457/Section-8-Nuisance.html#section_8.2.2.1). The 1996 manufacturer's workshop manual (Rover Goup Ltd publication number LRL0097ENG as amended September 1997) clearly shows (pp 133/134) a blanking plate installed as standard. They will have been used for export models only at this time.

Plenty of mentions of the EGR in that manual (plus pictures). if you use the on-line VIN decoder you will find that the engine type (with or without EGR) is actually specified by one of the letters (I also think 23L prefix engines are EGR and 16L not IIRC). Mine is a 96 300 (UK model. with 23L engine) and that had and EGR which I removed many years age (and still passed the new MOT). If you know what you are looking for on the FIP and bulkhead (and the EGR ECU) then its easy to tell if it is supposed to have an EGR fitted as standard.

I'm strugglling to see the point of the OP.. Sorry!

Mine passed too, just with blanking plate visible. Some put the valve back on top. What did you do?

Yea I was wondering too but thought I would chip in anyway:rolleyes:. I've got a plain blank fitted, the FIP still has the potentiometer on it, the valve is on the bulkhead and ECU under the cubby box.

Same as me then. My MOT man had been testing mine for 11 years before I took the EGR off. Probably didn't look under the bonnet much then though.
