I have been reading how the owners of diesel discos have been pulling their egrs with good results.

Can you do this with the petrol V8 and get same results?

The 4.0 and 4.6 don't use an EGR valve, and as far as I know the 3.9 didn't either, they have SAI - Secondary Air Injection - which feeds extra air into the exhaust side of the engine to provide a 'second burn' of previously un-burnt fuel, but is only utilised in cold start situations, and has no effect whatsoever on performance or efficiency.

Or are you meaning crankcase recycling or something different altogether?

thanks for the info - I thought I was going blind because I could not find the egr. So that answers that!

Hi Ormus,

What is this alternative? Purchase my own oil well and refinery? Gas (petrol) just shot up another 10 cents a litre out our way here in Victoria, British Columbia.

If it's gone past $7.70 a gallon I have sympathy, otherwise I really don't want to hear about it :D

Hi 13on,

Well, I know you pay more than us for gas (petrol) in the UK but our distances are a lot greater than you can imagine; for example, 2 hours on the Santa Monica Freeway from Orange County, doing 60 mph, through LA heading north gets you out of town? Not a chance - LA is still all around you! I was just on a round trip via road down to Lubbock Texas to attend a conference - it worked out to 7,000 plus kms! That would take you from anywhere in the UK to at least Moscow and back.

Because of the relatively high fuel prices out here we have had failure after failure in the airline industry and many trucking firms are teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. If we paid European fuel prices here - forget it - the whole transportaion structure would collapse.

That is why I am trying to get my landy running as efficiently as posssible - because I like travelling by road but its becoming a real luxury.
