Hello weve just purchased a 300 TDI engine to put in our early 90 and it is fiited with a EGR valve and therefore a EGR valve control unit. will the engine run without this being plugged in? whats the actual point of an EGR valve. I know its a exhaust recirculation valve but what is its use?
Many thanks Joe:)

remove it.
blank it orf
it dont do any good.
kits available on ebay.
clean it out proper at the same time.
injun runs betterer.

does that mean remove the control unit for it as well or just blank the actual valve off? does it run without the control unit then?

Yep. Mine is chucked in the back of my landy still attached to the seat base. Get shot of it. Just blank off the valve and pull the plug on the control unit.

Its to do with trying to get rid of nasty stuff from yer eggsauce fumes, it recirculates some of the air into the air intake, and any unburnt fuel etc gets burnt off and cleaned up. Its one of the cheats to improve emissions ratings on engines.

Thanks for that i understand, it sounds like abit of a cheat but thats manufacturers of today with global warming.

Does it run any better then pal? any advantages??

More power, less smoke and it doesn't gunk up your engine. Unplug the control unit and go on a test run. You should notice the difference if the egr valve was working ok. Then if you are happy with the way it drives remove the control unit altogether and blank off the valve.
