Can anyone tell me exactly where I can find these ECU's and any other bits of wiring/connectivity I should be checking?

1999 4.6 Thor Range Rover p38

-Wabco D ABS ECU (can't connect with Nanocom, although another diagnostic tool called Pscan does)

-Hella CC (also never been able to get it to connect/communicate with the Nanocom)

-BECM (used to access this loads to disable the EKA when having key issues previously, now also getting unable to communicate error on the Nanocom)

For reference the Nanocom will connect and work with all the other menu options e.g. Motronic, Gearbox, Airbag, EAS & HEVAC).

The cable looks like new still (supplied with Nanocom), Nanocom looks like new as does the OBDII connecter on the vehicle.

Hella is the cruise one? Isn't that part of the control unit that has the bellows control? Not sure

I'll be damned. Not noticed that before but then I only have the diesel and GEMS modules so maybe I cannot see it.

I'd imagine that must be must be above the throttle pedal behind that panel or in the engine bay near the engine ECU. RAVE must have a picture?
 
I think it's only in the Motronic section ? The cruise ECU was changed around the same time they went from GEMS to Thor, so no point in having it in the other sections.

Licensing is engine ECU only, so all other modules should work on any Nanocom.

yep on the emulator, HELLA CC only shows under motronic (Thor), not GEMS or Diesel
 
If the Nanocom cannot connect to multiple modules it's extraordinarily unlikely the multiple modules have gone bad. It's far more likely that socket &/or wiring that the Nanocom connects to have gone bad with corrosion.

Noted, but how and where would you check this? The vehicle is remarkable clean in regards to corrosion. Even down to the fuse panel and relays under the bonnet looking like new, which I know can also be a different issue some p38's suffer with.

if the pollen filter/scuttle has ever leaked then you'll get water in the OBD port eventually

Corrosion in the OBD port is common, sometimes so bad that the wires actually corrode off on the back.
 
Pin 16 is 12V and 4 & 5 are ground. (must be ok, or Nanocom would not power on)
Pin 14 is SRS ECU
Pins 7 & 16 are for everything else, BECM.

BECM can be finicky to connect sometimes, as can HEVAC. Depends if ignition is on or off !!

Socket pinouts are:

Pin 1...Grey & Red wire EAS Timer
4...Black Ground
5...Black & Purple Ground
7...Pink & Red Becm connector C255
11..White & light Green Airbag (SRS) ecu
12..White & Pink EAS ecu
14..Yellow & Green Airbag (SRS) ecu
15..Light Green & Red Becm connector C255
16..Brown Permanent 12v+ supply from Fuse 33
 
Some of the ECU's you can connect to at any time, while others you can only communicate with when the ignition is on has always been my experience.
e.g. Wabco is only livened up when the ignition is on because its a pre-req for a moving vehicle that needs ABS.

I'm sure I needed the cruise button lit up to connect to HELLA CC
