Hi...discovery II has been in land rover garage and they now say that the ECU is not mapping. What does that mean and is it their problem or mine?

If you are talking about the engine ECU,then it controls the fuel and ignition map.I notice you are using LPG,so I take the garage is not a main dealer.(most main dealers wont touch LPG cars)
What is your problem with the car ? If its poor running, then chances are the LPG system has upset the long term fuel trims of the petrol ECU.Please give more info.

Hi

Unfortunately, it is in a land rover garage - Stratstone in Perth. The car was behaving faultlessly then on returning to it after a day at work the engine just cranked but did not fire properly . It felt like it had immobilised itself. Land rover assistance came and they also felt it was behaving as if immobilised. They recovered the car to Land Rover who said that the did not like to touch LPG convertions but thought they new the fault codes. They replaced the BCU but it still cranked but did not fire. They replaced the ECU but then found that it would only map to 46% complete each time before crashing. They took out the new ECU and put back the original, mapped it but it crashed at 46%. They said they would not touch it any more unless I removed LPG. I got the disco picked up, taken 30 miles for disconnection, and returned to Land Rover. They tried mapping again but still crashes. They refuse to ask Land Rover technical for guidance on a crashing ECU as they would just get "laughed" at even though I had removed the LPG system (it was a prins). The car is now worse than when they got it and they are very reluctant to do anything. They have had the car for 24 days now and I am (not) going on driving holiday to France now!
Esentially they are hiding behind the LPG but I believe they misdirected me by taking the car in the first place instead of rejecting the job. The only thing they seem to know is how many thousands the bill is!
Any ideas. PS the prins installer tested the system before removal and did not find anything wrong.

Help..I am trying not to sound desparate

What a shower of winkers. I was told that I needed my 'petrol adaptations" resetting but only Land Rover could do it because they had the software. It was part of the process to cure poor running on my LPG system. I called in to the LR dealers, spoke to the service manager and told him what I wanted doing and why. I may as well have told him that I planned to infect his family with AIDs when I told him my vehicle was LPG, such was his reaction. luckily, I know several other people in the dealership who over ruled him and took the vehicle in. ECU petrol adaptaions resett and its never run better. Your problem might well be down to faulty Lambda sensors which have thrown the way the ECU controls the petrol.
