The oasis tents are reportedly good.

can be roof mounted or taken off and used on the ground (handy) as they have fold out legs.

Ignore the cheap ****e in your 1st link. My money would be on the Oasis, more info here: Oasis II roof top tent

I was looking at that same auction for the Oasis... think I might want a canvas tent for my year in Africa though. Also, since I live in Belgium it'll be a pain to go pick up. Sigh.

No idea where they're made, but decided to wait until I can check all the types out at a landy show... leaning towards an Eezi-Awn at the moment, and they even have a reseller in Belgium so that helps!

Me too - I don't doubt the quality of the top end products but I'd rather buy a galvanised chassis if I had that amount of spare cash. Hence the reason I keep looking at cheaper models - are they that much difference in quality?

bluehaze - buy a good one 2nd hand. will be the same price as a new economy one ;)

I picked up my Maggiolina for £600 with awning. Its in excellent condition. what would £600 have got me new? nothing special.

What do you think would be a good price for a 3 year lightly used old Eezi Awn Series 3? Am taking a look on Saturday and am wondering what to offer. They're asking 700 euros.

Sounds about right. quiz them on how many nights its been used and more importantly where it has been stored.

check the canvas near the poles for wear, check all hinges and clips. check the baseboard for damp/rot. The poles that hold the door/windows open, check they still hold tight and are not sagging.

ask if they have re-proofed the canvas in the 3 years.

Generally, you can tell just by looking at it if its overall good or not. If it looks shabby, its usually knackered.

Great! Thanks for the info.

They say it's three years old and only used once a week for family holidays... no idea how it was stored. Not sure if I'll offer them 700 euros up front though, we'll see. If I can get it for 500...

It's in pretty decent shape, "lightly used" I would say. The only real issue is a small tear in the cover, which I figure can be patched. Picked it up for 600 euros and I'm feeling pretty happy about it. We could only get two of the mounting bolts into my roof rack, but I can fix that with a drill in a couple days.

Of course now I have two issues to figure out... where to store this thing and how to get it on/off on my own. It's too big to get in the elevator in my apt and I don't want to drag it up three flights of stairs. I also think just leaving it on the roof rack isn't a great idea. I'll get some guys from work to help me get it on/off right now, but I think I can rig up something with a winch to let me get it on and off the roof on my own.

Well done mate, sounds like a good buy.

I'm keeping my eyes open for a second hand one, preferably howling mood or hannibal, with extra room.

I've just bagged myself an oasis roof tent for £250 on ebay. I'm well chuffed. At just 17 Kilo's I can keep it in the house and only fit it when I need it.:)
