The Serial to USB2 adapter needs a special driver for Windows 7. I only found this after some trying Note: this is NOT the one listed on the support site as working with Win 7 (and other versions)

Have received the updated driver from Logilink tech support & seems to work fine - you will need to remove the old driver before installing.

USB to serial can be a bastard on Vista and 7, such is progress.
