So getting despondent now.

Air bags not leaking, stood all week at motorway height.
New valve block.

Today, fitted brand new pump!!!

And yet, can not shut the bloody thing up......keeps running. 5 secs here and there....as expected but then 2 minute burst.

I do have a question, in the How To, it says it should not be possible to hold finger on the pump output when it is running? Well after servicing my pump, I still could although the pump was clearly puffing out some air! So because I could, I got a new one. The new pump, seems to put out the same amount of air as my old serviced pump, and I can hold my finger on the output. So now now not sure what to do.

Anyone in Kent that can help me?

Rachel:confused:

Buy one of these remove purple tank feed pipe put this gauge on instead with a bit of added pipe open door pump should run up to pressure and stop remember it would only be filling the tank at this stage with a door open if after its stopped it keeps triggering you got a leak in the valve block or a fualty pressure switch watch the gauge once it has stopped

In theory your only testing compresor out put valve vbock leak and the pressure switch

Do you get it or do I need to brush up:p

Rachel the compressor in good condition should produce around 175 PSI of air pressure. Unless you are an all in wrestler that will be forced past your finger if you put it over compressor outlet. Even putting a reasonable amount of finger pressure on the outlet it should still be forced past your finger. To the extent that you will get a burning sensation in your finger end. Pressure is built between the exhaust valve and the outlet so providing the exhaust reed is sealing you should get max pressure PDQ. The exhaust reed MUST seat and seal on it's O'ring.

Maybe you should change the finger over the compressor outlet to using a more reliable and accurate gauge that has a number of uses with out having to alter the original pipe work in any way :):):)

Thanks Wammers, I suspected as much. So new pump, not pushing out enough air. Would have hoped on a new pump the reeds would have been right. Could set them on the old one, its why I purchased the new one. I can hold and stop the air!

Bugger!

Thanks, may purchase that. At a crossroads! I purchased the car for fun, and enjoyed working on it, have fixed a load of issues!!...now getting really ****ed off with it. A new valve block and pump, and yet...people then tell me those parts could be faulty!!! Don't stand a bloody chance!!!!

Hi Rachel, maybe a silly question but are you putting your finger over the brass connector coming out of pump or have you connected blue pipe then checking output? Only reason I ask is because blue pipe may have a split or leaking pressure somewhere?

Not as silly as you think, I had the same problem where the blue pipe had been rubbing on EAS box and had a small hole in pipe :( and to quote Wammers "no airy no worky"

Just a thought, but by going by personal experience these beasts can throw up the strangest of problems, before I purchased my p38 I used to own many jeeps over the years and my last one was the grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 and I must say that all my my tools remained nice and clean through out ownership but since owning my p38 they are constantly oily. Gotta love em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finger over compressor outlet costs a lot less than £26.00 and is just as effective.

You can't check each and every collet outlet with you finger tho or see if either side of the tank or and bag air line it losing pressure . Buy turning the gauge you can check either side of any air line .
Try that with your middle finger.

You can with soapy water, don't try to teach your granny how to suck eggs. :);)

If you want to go lying under the car squirting water in cold freezing weather be my guest .

Have you ever heard of a garage. Her problem is NOT a leaking pipe though is it? Her bloody compressor is not giving enough pressure that is pretty obvious. You don't need a bloody pressure gauge to know that. Just your finger. :p:D

I have I don't use them

I wouldn't like to say one reconditioned a new one and still problems comming on after long waits it pumps up the car stays level but still comes on i would say it was a leak

From her description and that is all i can go on, neither of the compressors is making good air. She needs to sort that out first. I meant your own garage.

Could still be the blue pipe leaking Tony, if it is the same one used on both compressors it could well be the problem. There have been a few reports of failure and the finger test would show little pressure if done at the end of the pipe as is common practice.
