Hi again all, Land Rover runner fine, thanks to help from the guys on here. Now i have ear ache, The passenger front window needs replacing, as the metal running strip that runs at the bottom of the glass is broke, and the window just drops when I open it, "Ear ache" I hear you ask, that would be from the other half, its either to hot and she cant open her window, or its to cold and i have to stop to do it up. Ive tried ear plugs, cotton wool and the like. How easy is it to replace the glass along with new strip? Any replies welcome, preferably on the glass replacement. lolMany thanks

are you sure it isn't a faulty winder mechanism, its quite a common problem but easy to replace and only about £14 or so. If it is that before you remove the old one chock up the glass with a length of wood to stop it dropping as you make the swap.

No its not the mechanism, its the metal grip at the bottom of the window class that has corroded away.
Many thanks

I've had both of these go on my old 200Tdi Disco. To get the glass out you have to take the door window frame top off, there is no other way. The first stage in doing this is to remove the window lifter mechanism, as it needs to be out when you slide the replacement glass back in.

I had two spare doors, and if you do go down the 2nd hand route, be aware that they changed the window lifters somewhere around 1995/96. The car I broke up as a 1994 300tdi, and was the same as mine. My neighbours can is an N reg 300Tdi, and its a different (more flimsy) lifter and hence completely different window channel

You could have a go at fitted a metal channel with the window in situ, I tried but failed as I couldn't get a straight, hard enough push to get the channel onto the glass.

While your in there, make sure the operating rods to the lock are OK, as when the window becomes "derailed" it can rip these rods off.
